Being fatherless herself, Katrina Nsheiwat writes passionately about the broken home in America. According to United States census data, 21.8 million children are fatherless, raised by 13.7 million single parents - 11 million are single moms. Proud of her Jordanian-American heritage, the author stresses the need for role models and extended family members as surrogate parents. She pleads for a return to basic family values: "Research shows that every day more than thirty-five hundred children are born to unwed mothers. They will all grow up fatherless. If I can show that children of single parents can overcome adversity and become productive citizens through love, discipline, education, and faith, my highest aspirations for this book will be realized."
